running out of adhd meds from abroad

Long story, but I just… realised that I will run out of ADHD meds in 5 days. Panicking. On top of that, it is Elvanse, and highest dosage possible. I am open to switching to Concerta if they wouldn't want to prescribe it, but I just called a few clinics and one said Japan has lack of ADHD meds, other that waiting time for appointmen is a month…. What do I do?

  1. You wait the month for an appointment. Your med doesn’t exist here, and vyvanse at any dose is nearly impossible to get if you’re over 18. You need to have been prescribed vyvanse before turning 18 and have ample proof that you were taking it before turning 18.

Concerta is controlled and only certain doctors can give prescriptions for it btw. Take whatever appointment you can get and wait.

  2. You’re not going to die if you can’t get your stimulants for a month. You might have a bad month, sure. Book the appointment and wait.

  3. Call around to different clinics. Its is usually that initial appointment that will take a bit once I did that I was able to walk in and get a refill. One big thing you can do in the meantime see if you can get paperwork about your ADHD medication history from overseas.

Right now a big one being prescribed is the generic version of Strattera but theres been supply issues so I know my doc has been warning me about how I might need to change medications but so far we are still safe.

He personally refused to prescribe Concerta- but was willing to refer me to clinics who would.

  4. If you are switching to Concerta, keep in mind that there is a current nationwide shortage and a lot of pharmacies don’t give them out to new patients. Some doctors also won’t prescribe it due to the shortage
