Hi there!
I've been checking this sub frequently but this is my first time posting here.
So, I'm one of those gaijin who have 3 first names (note that they're not "middle names", but 3 first names separated by spaces). In France, most people have at least 2, and they are mostly used in administration, so we commonly use the first one only.
For the past few years I've been struggling a lot since the ID verification of many services have been automatized. Places like mercari would reject my application because I registered my first first name when I created the account, which does not match with my residence card displaying my three first names.
In most cases, it's actually impossible to register my full sized first name, because of character limits.
One recent problem is PayPay. I use an old shinsei account that I opened when I came here 12+ years ago, and of course I registered only my first first name on that one. Since that bank account name won't match my residence card, application rejected is what I got every time. I wanted to open a Sony Bank account, but got hit again by the character limit thing, and since they don't really have office, I guess I'll have to find another bank. The other option would be to change my name on that Shinsei account, which would involve more paperwork for automatic transfers etc.
Honestly, I'm not really sure what to expect by posting here. If anyone in the same situation have any tips, advise to make life easier, feel free to share your experience.
Cheers!
