I've asked some immigration staff at a community center, but they interpret this as myself opening a business, which wouldn't be allowed for most visas. Is there any way I can be a freelance translator with a permission (資格外活動許可), or I really need to be hired to work in an office?
For context: I have a professor visa and I'm hoping to do translation as a side gig (although it's actually my specialty).
