Hi everyone,
I recently applied to renew my residence card as I’m coming up to the expiry date. I’m currently out of the country and I won’t be back until a day or two after the original expiry date. As I’ve already applied for a renewal, I received the two month extension paper and it’s in the system, so from a legal standpoint, there should be no problem reentering Japan.
However, while I’m away, my friend has been checking my post and said the postcard for pick up has arrived but even though my extension is until May 17th, the deadline for collection is March 13th – a few days before I return. I won’t be able to collect it by then as I won’t be in Japan.
What should I do? If I miss the deadline does that mean I have to do the whole process again and reapply although my original card will be expired? Or can I try to have the pick up extended?
I will call the immigration office and ask but I wanted to get some thoughts here first. Thank you!
