Are there any schools in Japan teaching to count with commas every 4 digits instead of 3?

I'm studying Japanese right now, and I'm learning man and oku in counting. It got me curious if the Japanese use commas in different locations than we do in English, so I searched online. I came across this article ( https://japantoday.com/category/features/lifestyle/10-000-or-1-0000-japanese-schools-are-starting-to-move-commas-on-big-numbers-but-why ) saying schools were starting to teach commas like 1,0000 for ichiman and so on, which seems much more logical to me. This article was from 2018, so I was curious if anyone knows if this ever caught on in Japan, or if it fell by the wayside? Thanks!
