Experiences with divorce involving children

Hi everyone,

I’m a foreign woman living in Japan and currently getting ready to go through a divorce from my Japanese husband. We have a child together.

I’m not looking for legal advice or trying to place blame. I’m hoping to hear from other foreign women who have been through divorce with children in Japan and are willing to share their experiences.

In particular, I’m interested in:

• How financial responsibility for a child was handled in practice

• How people approached discussions or processes around child-related expenses

• What helped create financial stability for the child after separation
