Stop Japanese flexing

Stop flexing your Japanese abilities unnecessarily. I have been here almost 9 years and I have never taken a proficiency test. I don't live in Tokyo and use Japanese everyday. I watch Sazae-san and Maruko on Sundays.

My friends will sometimes without invitation step in to speak their Japanese or translate. A few examples. I went to a restaurant and when the staff asked "何名様…?" (Nanmei-sama how many people?) My friend stepped in front of me in the stairs to loudly and proudly say SAN-NIN-DESU …when like honestly just a hand gesture would have been fine. And not that it really matters but I like to match the response to the question so I would have said san-mei… Then later when asked how spicy we wanted a dish, just almost talking over the server saying "HOW SPICY DO YOU WANT IT?!" like…bruh chill

I'm more than happy to ask for help or help others but that's the point. I did not ask. I am not about to speak up and say you should say this or that when the essential point is communication. I just sit back and let them go… especially on my day off when I'm not trying to flip on my Japanese brain.

I don't know. Anyone else have this experience and/or get annoyed by it? Also like…include furigana in posts like a lot of words people may know but can't read the kanji. The reader may know suteki (wonderful) but may not know 素敵
