I recently "finished" the Kaishi deck and have really come to enjoy that style. I find with my (low) level of kanji recognition, the example sentence provides a great anchor to associate meaning to, compromising kanji practice for easier recognition which helps with my main goal of conversing.
I have spent a couple hours trying to set up yomitan up in this way with SOME success, however if anyone also studies this way or knows of any card templates to make this process easier I am all ears. So far, I have had trouble figuring out how to display both the sentence and the definition on the back of the card. I'm sure I can figure it out eventually but as I'm burning through immersion time doing this I figured I'd ask around.
Edit: Lapis is amazing however I'm still trying to configure it to automatically select a sentence from like tatoeba.org or somewhere… I'm mostly encountering these words in Japan itself so I'm not too interested in making my own sentences from media (I just have a new-word list on my phone and dump it into anki every night). I do see that if I highlight an entire entry from tatoeba then yomi/Lapis will do it's magic, but I'd like to automate this if possible.
Edit 2 After a bit of headache, I think while there are some addons that seem to do this, its better to just use the functionality within yomitan/lapis and be more selective with the sentences. The time saved is not worth imo. That being said though I am really happy with this setup and am eager to see how well the retention goes!
