Hi all, mostly title. Flashcards, specifically Anki is a major part of my language learning. I'm finding however that it tends to take precedence to other methods of study and I'm making progress, it's just slow. I started with the Minna no Nihingo book 1 and then eventually switched over to genki 1 and i used pre-made anki flashcards for both. I got to 1000 cards for the Minna and I'm around 700 cards for the Genki deck. As they're sorted by chapters/subdeck, i don't un-suspend the subdeck until i have more than 70% mature cards. So, 1700 cards I've studied so far, including duplicates across decks that's maybe ~1000 unique cards in total. My issue is that I'm doing both active recall and passive recognition cards so my total unique vocabulary is probably only around 500 words. If i wanted to drop one of the card types, what should it be? I feel that the passive recognition cards would be much quicker but my retention rate would be much lower. Inversely the recall would be more difficult but I'd retain the knowledge much better. What is this subs opinion on the different memorisation methods specifically for Japanese? Am i better off just keeping both and grinding through it?
