Moving around before leaving Japan under Work Visa

Hi everyone!

To make it short, I've been living in Japan for almost 5 years now and a lot of recent events in my life (problems in my family in home country, broke up with girlfriend…) as well as myself realizing I don't really enjoy my life here anymore, made me want to leave Japan.
I also feel like I could really use a break from jobs for a time as I have some savings. And since I really love traveling in the countryside here, I was thinking of leaving my current job and appartment to take 1-3 months moving around in Japan.

It seems to be fine if I don't work as long as it's less than 90 days, but even if I plan to move around, I still need an address of residence as for as I know. And this is where I'm not sure to understand exactly what's possible or needed.

If I understand things correctly, that would be my options:

  1. Keeping my current appartment or finding a cheap sharehouse while I move around. That would be a big expense, though.
  2. Registering my address to a close friend's appartment (if their contract allows it) and crash there when I come to Tokyo in-between trips.
  3. Go to different places 2 weeks or 1 month at a time instead of moving every few days and registering those places as my address every time. Is it ok if it's in different prefectures every time ?
  4. Resigning from my Work Visa to get a Tourist Visa for 3 months instead. That would mean taking care of all my stuff, bank, phone number… before I guess. Can I do this while staying in Japan or do I have to leave and enter again to change visa ?

Am I right about my options and am I leaving out other options that I have ?
If that can work, my ideal would option 2.

Thanks a lot in advance! That would help me a lot in this huge change that's my situation right now.
