Research Semester for Master Thesis in Tokyo

I am currently a Master Student in Engineering in Germany and I have been accepted by a Professor at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Engineering to do a research semester at his lab starting September or October. The goal is to write Master's Thesis about the research topic that I will be conducting there. Now I got all necessary documents to directly apply to the university. The overall topic for the research still needs to be worked out in detail, though – this will be done by April.

Now my question would be, how likely it is that I won't get accepted in the end, because if not, I'd be difficult to find a plan B by the time a rejection would hit my mailbox. Secondly, if anyone has experiences in doing a research semester – maybe even conducting their master thesis there – what were the difficulties? Would you even recommend it?

I already looked at sites like tokyosharehouse and on its surface at least it seems straight forward to get a room or apartment. Are there recommendations for people that don't stay longer than 6 months?
