I'm on a working holiday visa right now, but will be switching to dependent visa some time this year. Right now, I'm under my partner's shakai hoken.
I understand that if I start working on the side (freelance gigs, I would have to pay the taxes myself at the end of the year), I'd normally have to pay ~20% in taxes because of my WHV.
I wouldn't earn much, definitely woudn't reach the amount where I'd fall out of shakai hoken. We're talking maybe 500k yen max over the entire year.
Now once I switch to dependent visa, from my understanding, I wouldn't have to pay any taxes since I'd earn under 1,3 mil.
Since I only submit my tax documents after the year has ended (and together with my partner? Since he will get deductions for me?), and my visa then will be dependent, will I still have to pay 20% on the income I earned during my WHV time?
I know it also has something to do with whether I'm a non-resident or not, but that's kinda the part I'm confused about, since I wonder if my follow-up-visa and the timing matters here…
Would be grateful if someone knows more.
