Are door-to-door internet reps legit or just sales pressure?

We’ve had a few guys come by recently asking about our internet service and suggesting there are “discounts” or changes available if we switch.

My understanding has always been that if there’s an official price change or campaign, you’d get a notice in the mail directly from your provider.

My father-in-law (who lives next door) may have signed up for something through one of these visits. Since he was told it would be "cheaper." My wife isn’t too concerned since it’s his money, but I’m pretty skeptical of door-to-door internet reps in general.

Are these usually legit sales contractors for companies like NTT/SoftBank/etc., or are they mostly high-pressure third-party resellers? What’s the typical scam vs. normal situation here? Even though I think they are from our providers? I feel like regardless they would send something in the mail instead of having someone show up directly.

Would love to hear others’ experiences.
