Hello I'm going to be working for a manufacturing company in about 2 months and this will be the first time I will have worked for a Japanese company in Japan. I have only travelled to Japan for tourism before (twice) and would like some insight on whether I will be able to survive on this salary in the area of Japan as mentioned in the title.
For context: I'm a single 24 year old who graduated with a Business Administration degree in 2023.I worked in the 1st company for 10 months and in my current company for almost 2 years. I live in India so my salary is definitely going to be an increase when I move to Japan but of course, the PPP is different so it's technically the same that way I would say.
Now for the salary details laid out by my Japanese employer:
Base salary before taxes: ¥220,000
Rent: 50% covered by the company (I think they said the max total rent can be ¥70,000)
Bonus ¥125,000 per quarter (dep. on company performance)
Attendance allowance ¥10,000 per month (if I do not take leave for the whole month basically, calculated as 20 days x ¥500 per day that i didn't take leave)
They also mentioned commuting allowance and overtime allowance but did not mention the amount.
I have never heard of the attendance allowance before so I'm not sure how that will work. So technically I would be getting 230,000 if that's the case? I'm not sure. Also key money and initial house deposit I'm not sure if I should take care of it. I will have to ask them.
I hope I have provided the required information! I would love if anyone could give clarity on this as I'm anxious I would be living paycheck to paycheck. Any budgeting tips that helped you when first moving to Japan that you'd like to share?
