Been in Japan for 3 years. Just moved to a new apartment last fall.
Shortly after moving, in around November, I got a weird call from some weird third party company (it was a Tokyo number and I live in Kyushu) that people can call about neighbor complaints and then the company calls that neighbor.
The caller told me someone called to report “footstep noises, music, and talking voices” the caller asked me if anyone else is living there (it’s a one person apartment), and I explained my girlfriend sometimes is over.
One example provided was “loud” conversational voices on a weekend at 5:30 AM. We were getting ready for a weekend trip and I don’t think we were particularly loud.
I sometimes played music at what I think is a normal volume when I was cooking dinner. I stopped that. The call wasn’t from the police but from the weird aforementioned shady neighbor complaint company that I don’t understand well.
Since then, nothing. Until today.
I come home from work, cook dinner at 6 PM, then after that play my Nintendo switch in bed for hours. That’s it. Very confident that I was almost completely silent.
At 9 PM, the POLICE come to my door. Said they got a call saying there was a “loud noise” coming from my room.
The police officer was very kind and understanding and seemingly on my side. He said he waited outside for a while before ringing the doorbell to see if he could hear anything, and said it was totally silent. Said he didn’t understand the call and thought it might be a mistake. Took my information, told me to lock my door, go about my day, and left.
I really don’t know what’s going on. If someone in this building hates me or is fucking with me. I don’t think I am loud and have tried to be very careful with noise since that weird call in November. Any advice would be appreciated.
