kanji with long pronunciation?

do you ever struggle to attach several sounds to a single kanji? for example:

私　わたし (3 sounds)
車　くるま (3 sounds)
志　こころざし (5 sounds!)

how do you remember that this tiny little thing makes all these sounds?

It is easy to recognize the sounds with the latin alphabet because they are neatly se pa ra ted. but it's different with kanji.

do you also struggle with this? how do you overcome it?
