Hello, with claims here on Reddit that PR is increasing to 200,000 yen, has anyone heard / read about an increase in renewing their PR?
Have to do that in September.

The maximum is raising to 30万円 according to one source I read, with an expected fee of 20万 but there’s no definitive answer yet. It still needs to go through the approval and discussion process and the increased fees for 3 month, 1 year, and 5 year visas is incredibly steep which makes a lot of people think the business lobbyists will push back against it.
Renewing your PR isnt a thing. Renewing your card is. The card itself should be free. There hasnt been any talk about adding a fee for that AFAIK.
Just got mine renewed. It was free.
Worth to mention, there will be special fee reductions e.g. for PR on the spousal route implemented as well according to the drafts.
Worth remembering that these are still proposals that have not been approved and likely to face significant pushback.
Absolutely horrendous if they pass as is.
Permanent residence is permanent. That means you do not have to renew it.
PR doesn’t have to renew. Once you have it, you have it. You do have to get a new card every 7 years to make sure your address and photo are accurate but it is free.
So, in quite a lot of cases, the hiring companies are covering the visa related costs. Won’t it be a problem at some point? I mean, some companies do have a lot of foreign employees. That can put a significant dent in the budgets.
Any change would go into effect after FY 2026 so if you’re renewing in September you don’t have anything to be concerned about.
A quick question – have been here for almost 13 years, spouse visa, finally got 5 years back in 2022. What are the benefits of PR?
You don’t renew your PR. You just get a new card. There is zero fee now and zero fee proposed.
The proposal is for people who are getting PR in the first place
The advantage is that I can set up a stall on the weekend and don’t need any other visa.
Always joked it meant I could set up a blue tent by the river and spend my days collecting aluminum cans.

It’s not renewing your PR that is/could increase in price. It’s the initial application for a new PR. Renewal is free. I gotta renew mine in July this year. Have had it since 2013. Back then it was only 8000 yen or so.
This is the fee to obtain PR not to renew the card. Note that PR itself does not have to be renewed, only the card
There’s been no mention of adding some crazy fee for renewing the card at this juncture
