Avoid work for South Asian Companies in Japan.

Posting this based purely on personal experience.

If you're a foreigner planning to stay in Japan longterm , especially if Permanent Residency is your goal, please be very careful when joining small foreign managed companies, specially South Asian managed businesses or like they say "family" Bussines.

This is NOT about attacking any nationality. It’s about compliance and understanding how Japan actually works.

In my case (and coworkers’ cases), I’ve seen things like:

Overtime only being paid if you exceed 30 minutes(that's illegal)

Payroll miscalculations

Incorrect or messy year-end tax adjustments

Social insurance not being handled properly

Tax records getting messed up (which becomes a huge issue if you apply for PR)

Workplace standards that don’t match Japanese expectations

Forced nomikai “Japanese company culture” being applied in the worst ways

Everything managed in Excel with no real CRM

Japan is extremely strict about documentation. Labor law, tax records, social insurance , everything needs to be clean and correct

If your company doesn’t understand this properly, YOU are the one who suffers later, not them

That can mean:

PR delays or rejection

Visa issues

Tax corrections

Problems when applying for loans or housing

Some companies come to Japan and try to operate like they do back home.

If you're serious about building a future in Japan, protect your paperwork.

Just sharing so others don’t learn the hard way like some of us did.
