2. Off to Oz for a bit today.  Yesterday my daughter was sent hom from kinder with a high temperature – cue mild stress.  Woke up fine this morning – relief.

   Instead my stomach has decided to not be great and I got a scratchy throat from the AC – mild stress.

   But I managed to get the women out of the house on time.  A Christmas miracle!  We may even be able to get an earlier train.  Totally unheard of in my house.  But I won’t relax until we’re on the plane.

3. Japanese interior design is so ass backwards it baffles the mind. After living in Europe and America seeing these massive houses in the japanese country side dedicate exactly 5 square feet to toilets or kitchen spaces makes me question why. 

   They have the space to better arrange the space and don’t. Even modern japanese houses seem content with this outdated style of putting no thought into a proper bathroom or kitchen. The bathrooms are always either boring white or just plainly tiled, no color, no theme, just bleh. Then the kitchens are just tiny galley kitchens as if they were on a submarine.

4. I went to get gas yesterday evening only to find that the price had gone up 5 yen over the weekend. Whoops. Shouldn’t have procrastinated on Saturday.

5. My oled TV is delaminating, 6 years old. So starting price watching the 2025 models with the 2026 coming out soon (preorders out yesterday in the US). Sure enough LG website had a really good sale, and 20,000 off for new registrations. so it was the lowest point in the TVs sales history (according to Kakaku). Its a lot. I would rather not drain my entire cash stock for a TV. I can afford it, just not the wisest to pay for it all at once. I noticed that they offer 0% intrest payment through JACCS. Basically a loan. It took me nearly an hour to fill out the application. I was surprised they had an option at the start to enter an “ENGLISH NAME.” But I can’t help but wonder if that is simply to weed people out. Everything was accepted. But I wish I had an opportunity to put my visa status. I feel like that would have helped my case. And I also chose Automatic Bank withdrawal if the loan was accepted. I got the form for that. And lol, it would only accept Kana names, saying my English name didn’t match. Which is pretty fucking hilarious that they go far enough to allow English on one form, but neglect to allow it on the other form. I was able to change to a paper application for bank withdrawal that they will mail to me later, again, if the application goes through. It’s been 24 hours, no email either way. They said they may call you. No phone call. I can’t do Keigo shit over the phone. I hope they don’t call. anyway. That’s all. That’s my story.

   It’s just a TV, if the “loan” doesn’t go through, not a big deal; I can wait a few months to put some extra aside. The TV will go on sale again at a big box store.

7. Guys, I’ll finish Japanese school in March and return to my country in April. I read about changing visa to tourist one, but my school said it couldn’t be done. Can it be done?

8. They announced transfers today which means now everyone knows I’m going to med school (research track, not doctor). One coworker asked me “didn’t you study anime in college?”

   I may be a lowly ALT but in a past life I was a serious science student.

   It was a joke, but still a tasteless one 😑.

9. Found an affordable, good sized apartment in a brilliant location, but it’s over 50 years old (pre-81). Now I’m having kittens cos I really want it but figure it’ll be very hard to sell in the future if necessary.

10. Sorry for the rant but Sagawa is so useless.

    Everything is so easy with JP Post. I do my end of the process, make an order and pay, and they do theirs, deliver the package.

    Sagawa is the complete opposite. I work office hours and usually can’t meet the driver. Instead of just putting the package in front of the door or in the gas meter box, they leave a slip for redelivery. Fine, but the problem is that when you use it, at the end of the process I’m required to join Sagawa Smart Club. I’m sorry but I don’t want to use your service in the first place, it’s just that I can’t select which shipping company the seller will use, and I don’t want to be part of your club. So then I have to either call or chat with them. Both of these can be expected to take up to 15 minutes for such a basic thing. The phone line for English support often hangs up after it’s been ringing for a couple of minutes and chat takes long in between messages. Like just be like the other companies and deliver. When they deliver, they need you to sign no matter how basic the product is. I wish their company was more fringe so you didn’t have to deal with them. I wrote this at the end of the drawn out chat but doubt it will help:

    *”Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I know the system is not your fault but maybe you can provide feedback to your company to be more like JP Post. They just deliver packages without any problems, phone calls or signatures. Also don’t require people to join online clubs.”*

11. On my way to Narita airport. Got a fight to San Francisco at 17:00. Then I have to come back to Japan on Sunday. This is going to suck. RIP my sleep schedule.

12. I’ve been going on 6km-10km photo walks every night for the past few weeks, and this is very obvious, but I’m finally building a mental model of Tokyo. Feels a lot smaller now. It’s also funny coming out of a random alley not really knowing where I am, then suddenly being like, “….this is Mejiro! And if I walk down the road, and go past there, I’ll end up in Ikebukuro!”

    I feel like a dweeb saying this, but it feels like Dark Souls where you go through some random path and find a new bonfire and you have a moment of confusion of where you are, then suddenly the “Darkroot Garden” ovelay pops up lol.
