Hello, I am travelling to Tokyo with my wife and two kids aged 7 and 3 from April 15-22nd. Ive been a little overwhelmed with trying to work out the best things to see and do. We have booked a Mimaru hotel in Ueno for time but looking for some feedback on our proposed ininerary.
Day 1:
Arrive around 11am after an overnight flight.
Train to Ueno, quiet day around the Ueno park, maybe the national museum if we arent too tired. Check in around 3pm, have a rest then walk to Ameyoko Market for dinner.
Day 2
Asakusa and Senso-ji shrine, walk along river and have a picnic in one of the parks. Walk or train over to the skytree and Sumida aquarium and visit the pokemon centre
Day 3
Visit Tokyo imperial palace and Hibya Park then Pokemon cafe for lunch (if we can get a resevation). Over to Ginza for the afternoon/evening
Day 4 (Saturday)
Thinking of a potential day trip to Nikka or mouht Takao.
Other options include a cooking class (https://homecoming-taka.com/) or maybe a Asakusa Sumo club.
Still unsure about what is best to do on a Saturday.
Day 5
Yoyogi park and Meiji Jingu shrine then up to the Tokyo metro gov building. Back to Ueno for the afternoon.
Day 6
TeamLab planets then Toyosu markets followed by Hamarikyu gardens. Potentially check out the Tsukiji markets also.
Day 7
Sunshine City then if enough time Asobono indoor kids playground.
Day 8
Fly home.
Seems like there is still a bit of time to fill but we will need to have some down time with the kids so imagine we will be hanging out around Ueno by the hotel a bit. We are planning to eat mostly at foodcourts, convenience stores and supermarkets or finding casual eating places as we walk around.
Anything that seems like it is too much for one day? Or any days that might be too busy? Also any big things we are missing? Not really that interested in Disney or theme parks as it looks like there will be plenty of other fun actual Japanese things to do.
Finally, would it be worth hiring a tour guide for any of the days? Was considering a half day guide from gowithguide.com, possibly for day 2 or 3.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Arigato.
