I'm (M, mid-20's) in the process of planning a trip to Central Japan & the Japanese Alps, and the focus of the trip is to chase the orange and red autumn colors!
This is the plan that I have for travel:
đŧ Tokyo (4 days, fly in 11/16-11/20)
âŠī¸ Nikko (2 days, arrive 11/20-11/22)
đ Nagano (2 days, arrive 11/22-11/24)
đ Takayama (2 days, arrive 11/24-11/26)
đ¯ Kanazawa (2 days, arrive 11/26-11/28)
đŧ Tokyo (2 days, arrive 11/28, fly out 11/29)
I know with weather patterns, time, and distance from mountains to the coast, the ideal time to see fall colors can vary greatly. My priorities for fall colors would be in Nagano, Nikko, and Takayama.
Is this too much travel? Since I will be starting and ending in Tokyo, I would love any feedback and suggestions for the order of travel to save time in traveling, and if I should change how much time I spend in certain cities. I also would prefer to be able to have train access whenever possible over driving, I'm open to driving but would prefer to avoid unless necessary – I know this may be the case in the smaller cities where sights aren't as close and public transportation is not highly accessible. Thank you!
