We recently moved to Kyoto, and my work is near Kyoto University. We likely won’t need to commute every day, but we expect to go in a few times a week.
We’re considering a place near Funaokayama Park, around Murasakino Kitafunaokacho in Kita Ward. The apartment is about 80 m², with a monthly rent of ¥245,000. Our budget is flexible, but we’d like to understand if that price is reasonable for the area. The building itself does look fancy.
We realize the commute isn’t the most convenient. It looks like it would take around 40 minutes by bus, including a short walk. Do buses in this area tend to get very crowded?
We’d also love to know more about the neighborhood. Are there good options for dining and everyday living nearby?
We’re both in our early 50s and prefer a quiet lifestyle over nightlife. We’re also interested in learning Japanese. We are here for at least five years.
