An experiential event called "KYOTO DAIKAIDAN TETRIS," where visitors can play the popular game "Tetris" using the grand staircase of Kyoto Station Building (Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City) as a massive screen, began on the 19th. It will run until the 25th.
The event utilizes steps 4 through 9 of the grand staircase (125 steps in total). Approximately 15,000 LED bulbs have been installed across the steps, creating a gigantic screen.
Players can enjoy solo play or head-to-head battles against another person. Using a dedicated controller on the stage, participants rotate and place falling blocks to clear lines and compete for the highest score within a 2-minute time limit.
According to Kyoto Station Building Development, which planned the event, the grand staircase is usually decorated with seasonal illuminations to welcome tourists. This is the first time an interactive experience has been introduced, with the aim of offering visitors a fresh perspective and new value.
The event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Participation fee is 500 yen per play. Limited to the first 50 groups per day (advance reservations or on-site registration may apply).
