Do you wear a surgical mask in public?

I often wear a surgical mask when I go outside for a number of reasons.

  1. Hygiene: I’m a bit of a germaphobe, I push elevator buttons with my knuckle among things to avoid germs. I don’t like catching colds!

  2. I’m sometimes tired / didn’t shave: I’m raising a toddler and am sometimes a little sleep deprived, so wearing a mask saves everyone from looking at my tired, unshaven face. Until I have a coffee, I don’t really like being looked at.

  3. Sometimes just want to be left alone: I find people generally just leave you alone, don’t try to sell you anything etc when you are wearing a mask.

  4. Warm in the winter: in the winter months, wearing a mask can be quite warm for your face.

  5. Stops other peoples’ bad breath / coughing: I share my workspace with some people who cough a lot and have bad breath. Mask acts as a natural barrier to that!

Despite this, I find that other foreigners / tourists, seem to look at me with raised eyebrows when I wear a mask in public!

Do any of you all wear a mask in your daily life?
