Kenkyusei Position at a university

Hello! I’m currently teaching english in Japan at an eikaiwa and am looking into ways to stay in Japan long-term. I wanted to know if anyone has ever gotten a position as a kenkyusei (I know you have to be accepted by a professor) and would it be very difficult? I am hoping to study disaster management for my Master’s degree and use my time as a kenkyuusei to study for the university entrance exam and work on improving my Japanese to N1 level. Would it be possible to study at a japanese university with N2 level japanese? I am fine with going to any university in Japan. Would it be very competitive to be accepted by the professor as long as I have a research proposal? Also, how hard would it be to be accepted as a master’s student?
