Hi, I’m really hoping someone can help me who has been in a similar situation.
I cannot transfer my PayPal (Japanese PayPal account) money to my Yucho bank account because the transfers keep getting rejected and PayPal removes my linked bank account. I found out that this was most likely because my name on PayPal is in Romaji (for example: Peach Cream Cheese) but my Yucho is in katakana with my surname showing first (for example: チーズ ピーチ クリーム).
Now, the problem is, PayPal recommended I just change my PayPal name from Romaji to Katakana to match my bank account. However, to change your name on PayPal, you need to then provide evidence that your name is what it is. But my official identity documents (residence card, my number card, passport etc) all have my name written in Romaji. So even if I change my name to katakana to match how it’s written in my bank account, I won’t be able to use the PayPal account at all if I can’t officially verify my name.
If you are wondering how my name ended up in katakana in my bank account – when I opened it, it was a requirement to have it written out in katakana.
I am in quite an awkward situation here because I work online and receive my payment through PayPal. I can’t access my only source of income right now and I don’t know what to do.
Had any other foreigner faced this issue? Were you able to fix it?
