Been on minoxidil for 3 years and want to start microneedling soon.

Looking to expand my stack — would love to hear from people navigating this in Japan specifically.

1. Topical Finasteride

Most of my research points to oral finasteride being the norm here, but I’m hesitant due to side effects. Topical is my preference for lower systemic absorption.

Anyone successfully getting topical finasteride from a Japanese clinic or dermatologist?

I want a proper doctor relationship — regular check-ins, dose adjustments if needed. No online pharmacies.

Any recommendations for hair clinics in Tokyo that are straightforward and won’t aggressively upsell?

1. Ketoconazole Shampoo

   • OTC or prescription only in Japan?

   • Any Japanese brand recommendations worth trying?

2. Cost

   • What are you paying monthly for finasteride and/or ketoconazole?

   • Does health insurance cover any of it?
