Rental options

Hi, I'm moving to Kyoto in July and I need advice on accommodation from the experienced residents. I'm looking for a 2LDK within a 5 km radius of the Yoshida campus. I have a cat and a kid so my options are limited. My main concern is insulation in winter. Given the choice between a new (3 yo) wooden house with double glazed windows for about 155k a month and an older (20 yo) reinforced concrete one for about 200k, what is a better option? As in, not having to run AC heating all through winter? Are there other factors I'm not considering?

  1. depends on the size/floorplan and windows and aircon efficiency and number of units. I live in a renovated machiya with new windows and floor heating and one nicely sized new AC unit. it’s fairly cheap to keep things toasty. generally newer will be better. sounds like you would save a lot in the house.
