  1. You saw an airplane contrail lit by setting sun. A comet would be millions of kilometres away and only visible in dark skies. Sorry. Pretty still.

  2. A plane, most likely. If it had been a meteor, you probably would have heard something.

  3. Looks like a contrail from a plane. Generally you can’t see comets during the day and they don’t look like that.

  4. Comets hang in the sky for weeks, and there’s no way you’d spot one before astronomers. You’re looking at an airplane con trail underlit by the setting sun.

  5. West of Tokyo, right?

I just saw it a few minutes ago. It looked like a meteor at first, but it’s just contrails from a flight.

  6. OP, I saw this from Ariake. Can confirm it was moving fast – if it were an airplane it wasn’t visible. Did not think it was a comet

  7. You can get emotional about a plane. You can get emotional over anything you want. It’s a free world filled with beauty.

Either that or the fire nation is attacking.

  8. I saw this walking home. It’s from a plane. If you look at the sky as often you’ll see it more.

  9. It’s Tokyo. Probably just another alien spacecraft.

    Better call Ultraman.

  10. I watched enough movies to know this is going to be the thing that wakes up Godzilla.

  11. Everyone’s dunking on you OP (with a tiny bit of good reason). But here’s some helpful advice for the future:

Download the app FlightRadar24. It lets you see all currently active aircraft flying in your area. Most useful is the AR camera function, which lets you view flights in the sky through your camera.

Next time you see one of these trails, open up the app and see if you can find a nearby flight that’s going in the same direction as the trail.
