Nipponbashi Street Festa

Just moved to Osaka this year and attending Street Festa for the first time with a friend, neither of us are cosplaying. Given how massive the turnout tends is in previous years, we're wondering if arriving around 10AM is early enough to find a decent spot. We want to be reasonably close to the opening stage near Ebisucho, or will it already be packed by then?

Also, what do people usually do after the event wraps up? Are there any open meetups or gatherings, or is the after-party scene mostly private?

  1. I’ve never been, but looking it up and seeing how many people attend (200k).. my guess is 10AM will be WAY too late.

And no idea on any of your other questions. Hope you have fun!

  2. Fair warning there is a heatwave warning for that day this year so be prepared with plenty of hydration! But as someone who has attended the previous 2 events you’ll need to be there around 8am or earlier.

  3. IME people move around between events so it doesn’t really matter what time you get there. As long as you pay attention to the schedule and get to the stage or location you want 30 mins before you’ll be fine

  4. I second what the other person said. The whole street is open to the public, and people just walk around, they don’t “reserve” a spot. You can arrive at 10 and just walk along the street to check all the cosplays/shops. For the parade I don’t know tho, I’ve never seen it before.
And this year I’m participating as a volunteer, so I’ll be on the frontline haha.

But honestly, you can just arrive at 10, walk around Nihonbashi a bit, and you’ll see a lot of incredible cosplays anyway. You might not be able to see the paid area cosplays (are those going out for the parade? I don’t know), but you can still see most of it. And most shops will be opened as well, so you can visit those too.
