I am a Southeast Asian student at a Japanese university. In group work, my Japanese classmates often ignore my ideas and only listen to each other. For example, when I suggest something, they acknowledge it but immediately switch to an idea from a Japanese student.
They recently gave me feedback saying I should "take more initiative," even though they ignore me when I try to speak up. I've even noticed the TA only interacts with the regular circle of Japanese friends.
I’m starting to wonder: Am I just being too sensitive, or is this a common experience for international students? It feels like a form of "silent exclusion." How should I handle this situation and their feedback without losing my mind?
