Daily Thread: for simple questions, minor posts & newcomers [contains useful links!] (May 15, 2026)

This thread is for all the simple questions (what does that mean?) and minor posts that don't need their own thread, as well as for first-time posters who can't create new threads yet. Feel free to share anything on your mind.

The daily thread updates every day at 9am JST, or 0am UTC.

  1. 「そう考える人はあなたしかいない」といった構文は確かにあるけど、「いない」を「存在していない」と入れ替えてもいい?「そう考える人はあなたしか存在していない」になるように?

  2. Hi I’ve been trying really hard to find an app or website to learn Japanese. But a lot of them just kinda force you to memorize words without actually putting them together. Does anyone have any recommendations for a website kind of similar to busuu but free? I did like busuu but I didn’t like how I couldn’t review my past vocab so I basically never saw the words again. And I would prefer a site where it teaches me all components rather than me having to individually learn vocab grammar and kanji separately.

  3. What does チロリと mean here ? チロリと舐めていく (i can only guess it as “lightly” but i’m not native Japanese so i’m not sure)

Context: A boy is trying to kiss a girl he likes

    唇を押し付けるように、キスをしてみる。

    Aさんは、嫌がる素振りも見せない。

    **それどころか、わずかに開いた唇から舌を覗かせて、チロリと俺の唇を舐めていく。**

  4. What kind of nuance does using な after an い-adjective give? Saw this hilarious youtube video with a powerlifter Anatoly and one of the comments was 強いなアナトリー

  5. Today was my hiragana midterm. I’ve known hiragana for a few years, but never really worked on my penmanship. Thanks to feedback from this sub and r/LearnJapaneseNovice, I passed with 97%! Thank you so much!

  6. Does anyone know of any Buddhist books or texts in colloquial Japanese rather than technical religious or academic language?
