Itinerary check – 3rd timers, 7 weeks rural roadtrip (some cities, but also Kyushu, Gifu, Ehime, Okinawa)

Hi all,

So, we're (me, my husband and our toddler) are taking a long trip through Japan. We have been twice before, so we have seen the touristy known things (Golden Route extensively but also Hiroshima, Miyajima, Izu Peninsula, Kanazawa and Shirakawa-go). This will be our first time in Japan with our toddler and it has always been a wish of mine to explore the countryside of Japan in the fall. So we're doing exactly this from mid October to early December. It's an extensive itinerary, but I want to check with other travellers who have seen more of the countryside of Japan if I am missing something and if my planning as it is is feasible and realistic.

As we are with our 2yr old son, we try to keep our travels and planning a bit flexible and try to do 1 thing per day or make sure to do things that are close together. Especially in Tokyo we have seen a lot already, so we just want to enjoy and relax. We have booked all our flights, and I have also already booked the majority of our other apartments/hotels/stays.

Day 1- 3: We spend our first 3 days in Seoul, from where we fly to Okinawa first. We want to have a 'summer holiday' before we go into the rest of Japan 🙂 I will start our days at 4, as this is the JapanTravel sub.

We know about the one-way fee). Kyushu is a bit open still, we have not booked anything yet, but for now my plan is as follows:

  • Day 38: Drive to Takeo Onsen from Kurokawa (2,5hr), so travel day. Plan nothing else that day
  • Day 39: Nagasaki daytrip
  • Day 40: Huis ten Bosch

Very very excited to hear some thoughts on our itinerary, experience with travelling Japan for a longer period of time with a toddler are also very welcome!
