Hi everyone,
Something incredibly frustrating happened to me today, and I need some perspective or legal reassurance.
I rode my motorcycle to the supermarket today. When I came out and walked back to the parking lot, I noticed two young kids (around 5 to 8 years old) playing unsupervised right next to my bike. Just as I approached, one of them touched the exhaust muffler.
Since I had just ridden there, it was hot. The kid immediately started crying. Fortunately, my bike’s muffler is thermally insulated, so it doesn't get hot enough to cause severe burns (it sits around 50°C max), but it’s definitely hot enough to startle a child and sting. The kid is completely fine, just scared.
Hearing the cry, the mother rushed over, completely panicked and immediately flipped out on me. She started asking for my name, phone number, and ID, and threatened to call the police.
I refused to give her my personal information, but she took a photo of my license plate before I left.
The kid clearly has no injuries (it was definitely more of a scare than an actual burn), but the mother was acting aggresive. Do I actually risk anything here? Can the police or insurance even do anything given that my vehicle was legally parked, engine off, and her kids were unsupervised messing with my property?
Thanks for the input.
