Since I’m Japanese, I’ve always grown up with bidets (washlets) everywhere—at home, cafes, department stores, and stations. But recently, I learned that they aren't nearly as common abroad for both men and women.
Personally (as a guy), whenever I’m unlucky enough to use a restroom without a washlet—or if the machine is broken—I just don't feel clean, and it completely ruins my mood. Sometimes, I end up wiping too hard with just toilet paper, causing painful chafing and even bleeding. Because of this, I literally cannot live without a washlet anymore, and I always crank the water pressure up to the MAX.
On a side note, there's a famous story about Munetaka Murakami, a Japanese home-run hitter who moved to the MLB this year. When he joined his team, he explicitly requested his US stadium to install a bidet in the restroom, which actually helped him bond with his teammates who ended up loving it!
As a Japanese person, I'm really curious about your honest thoughts on toilet culture and how things are back in your home countries. Which do you prefer, a washlet or just paper? And are washlets common in your home country?
If they aren't common yet, maybe you could team up with your relatives or friends back home to start a bidet installation business—you might end up getting rich! Lol, just kidding.
