I am a foreigner, going to Japan to sudy in a language school in a week. I will need to get a residency card there in a city hall, and they need to know where I live. I am going to rent Airbnb for 6 months. Will they accept Airbnb address for residency card or do I have to rent through a real estate company with a long-term lease?
Can I work, open a bank account, etc. with an arddress of Airbnb or do I need to be renting a contracted apartment with a monthly payment? As far as I know you can rent those only for 2+ years at least.

They will, people have also done hotels and it works.
It depends on the city. Airbnb’s must register as a hotel and some cities don’t allow folks to register a hotel as their permanent address.
You’ll also need to make sure that you’d have access to mail at the airbnb.
Plus it’s unlikely you’d be able to book one airbnb for a 6 month stretch as there are a variety of laws governing their occupancy (which also vary by city). One thing that doesn’t vary though is that an airbnb can only be rented out at most 180 days in a year.
