Haneda 2-3 Days Layover Itinerary Recommendation

Hey everyone,

I am planning a trip to Tokyo this December during my 2-3 days layover in Japan. I have the following itinerary in mind and have a couple of things I wanted to seek your advice on.

Day 1

1. Land at Haneda International Airport at 3:30 p.m.
2. 2. Clear immigration, and baggage collection and leave for a hotel in Ota City by 6 p.m.
3. 3. Reach the hotel, freshen up, etc., and leave for Roppongi by 7:30 p.m.
1. Could you suggest some good places to visit in Roppongi for sightseeing and dinner, sake/shochu, etc.? I am not interested in going to nightclubs, but would definitely enjoy sampling local cuisine and liquor.
2. Also open to other suggestions instead of Roppongi.
4. Head back to the hotel.

Day 2

1. Grab breakfast on the go from Conbini stores near Ota City station
2. Reach Senso-ji temple and Asakusa-jinja shrine in Asakusa by 8/8:30 a.m.
3. Visit Ueno koen and Tokyo national museum in Ueno.
4. Head to Shibuya to view the Shibuya crossing, Tokyo hands, and have lunch (around 2 p.m.).
1. Should I skip Tokyo hands to save some time?
2. Would it be wiser to skip the Tokyo National Museum to try and beat the 12/1 p.m. rush on the Shibuya crossing?
3. What would be a good place to have lunch in Shibuya?
5. Head to Harajuku to visit the Meiji-Jingu and Nezu museum
6. Experience green tea in a good café.
1. I’d be willing to skip the Nezu museum if it meant more time to fully enjoy the tea.
7. Shop for souvenirs in Harajuku
1. Could you suggest some places to buy decently-priced souvenirs?
8. Have dinner and hit up some bars in Shinjuku.
1. Open to alternate suggestions instead of Shinjuku.
9. Head back to the hotel

Day 3

1. Head to Haneda International Airport for breakfast and onward journey.
1. My departing flight from Haneda is at 11:45 a.m. Should I try to visit a temple early morning?

Do you think this itinerary is feasible?

Should I extend my trip by a day to make some time for Akihabara, the Tokyo station area, the Imperial Palace area, and anything else that I might be missing?

A little bit about me:
I’m a 24M foodie who likes Japanese cuisine and drinks and is looking forward to having ramen, udon, takoyaki, katsudon, sashimi, omurice, etc. I haven’t sampled a lot of the street food besides gyoza and teriyaki chicken and am excited to get this opportunity to sample different foods in Japan. Any suggestions for decently priced good restaurants would be highly appreciated!

Looking forward to hearing all of your thoughts! Thanks in advance!!

  1. What’s the rush on Shibuya crossing? It’s always busy, probably moreso around rush hour but I’ve literally never noticed a sudden rush at 12pm?

And it’s just a crossing. Don’t miss a cool museum to make it to crossing a road on time.

  2. Harajuku including Takeshita doori and particularly the Oriental Bazaar on Omotesando (street) are great places to shop for cheesy souvenirs.
