So I started my job at this small media company a couple of months back And? I don’t know how much more I can take. It’s a small all-Japanese company, excluding 1 Asian immigrant and me (I’m half) and we get “jokes” about being “gaijin,” “being here illegally,” and making fun of our language ability. And to top it all off, last week one day I was forced to work from 5 am – 2 am and I crossed the finish line crying. Plus there’s no way to report the zangyo hours I’m working either (which I think might be illegal?)
So to put it lightly, while I’ve only been here a couple of months I’m already looking for new gigs. One where I can utilize my English abilities (and so hopefully the company isn’t so small-minded). But I can’t seem to get a good grasp on what the media scene is like here. I’ve scoured LinkedIn but nothing much. Is there some organization I should know about? Some network group or something? I’m feeling really stuck at this current job and would like to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please.

LinkedIn and such are good for jobs like that.
There’s a surge of new “for foreigner” media out there, I found a bunch in Osaka but I wasn’t qualified for any of them.
Small media companies be like that… it’s best to find one where there’s a few foreigners, not just one or two, and they’ve been able to keep running for more than a few years. I landed mine through Craigslist of all things after vetting them through an interview, researching online, etc., and they’ve been pretty good to me so far years in and we’ve really expanded. There’s also Wantedly if you want the small feel and being able to talk to them directly, otherwise yeah LinkedIn, Indeed, possibly looking for freelance opportunities -> building a network as you work for many of them -> getting hired directly full-time when an opportunity comes up with one of them. Actually how my most recent team addition got hired.
You can register to a temp agency(派遣).
I got depression working on a all Japanese job.
I registered to a temp agency. Got a job at a company with a 1:1 ratio Japanese/foreigner staff. They like me so they are thinking about changing my contract.
