Okinawa 101 Questions

I looked at the wiki and didn’t see much. I am planning a \~4 day trip to Okinawa and want to get away from city existence. Trying to figure out what area I should stay in. Other than experiencing nature – either beach or forest, but both would be best- I am interested in food and just wanting to relax. I know this is incredibly broad but looking for tips for a trip next month. Much appreciated.

  1. Up north past nato is where nature is There’s plenty of nice places to eat but down south is where the best places to eat are. Are there certain cuisines you like

  2. If you want a place away from it all, try the northern part of the island above Nago. The Yanbaru forest is wonderful, there are wild beaches and waterfalls all over the place up there, and some nice places to stay as a base. Oku Village has cabins with grills set against the forest you can stay in, or if you want a beach side place to stay, Nago has several resorts, as does Okuma.

  3. From my experience, if you go further from the city, it’s hard to find a place to eat. And they close pretty early during the weekday. If you have a rental, it shouldn’t be a problem though.
