My husband and I will be visiting Okinawa for the first time (second time in Japan) this April! We will be in Okinawa for 6 days including two travel days. We will be staying in Naha and will be renting a car for the first two days. Our must do’s are (in no particular order):
– Kokusai Dori
– American Village
– Churaumi aquarium
– Okinawa World
– Tokashiki island or Zamami
– Daruma temple
I have a list of places I found online but the attractions above are our musts.
This is the rough itinerary that I have thought of so far:
Day 1: Arriving from Osaka at 10am and will be picking up our rental car
– Okinawa World
– American village
– some thrift shopping (pls give me any recommendations on places to shop clothing/purses)
– Daruma temple
– back to Naha
Day 2:
– Churaumi aquarium
– Bise Fukugi Tree road
– Emerald beach
– Cape manzamo
* return car at the end of the day*
– back to Naha
Day 3: Island day!
I’m leaning towards Aharen Beach at Tokashiki but Zamami also looks beautiful. Any suggestions on which one to go to? Is it possible to do both in one day?
Day 4 & Day 5
Nothing planned so far but we’d like to spend time in Naha, especially around Kokusai dori. We’ll have the evenings on the other days to explore Naha as well. I wouldn’t mind adding another island day but I’m nervous about missing out on Naha itself!
Day 6:
Leave for Kyoto at 11am
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! The rough itinerary above is not set in stone so I am open to any and all suggestions – just go easy on me 😅
Thanks so much!!!

It’s quite a drive from Naha to the aquarium so I guess you can stay flexible for the rest of the time in case you spend longer time at the aquarium!
Just my recommendation. Daruma temple and Okinawa world is an easy taxi ride from Naha. Daruma temple is in Naha and Okinawa world is 8 miles from Naha. I’d move those 2 things to your free days when you don’t have a rental. While I had a car I’d drive to zanpa cape (it’s free). It’s a light house with a park next to it. Has a huge statue and a nice little hike. I’d also (with a car) drive to Maeda Misaki. Both these stops are along the way up north off highway 58. Plan for 30-1 hr per stop. Maybe even go to the underwater observatory. Not even sure if it’s open though.
