BOSJ B Block: [point totals from before the results of today’s matches] Robbie Eagles (6) def Ryusuke Taguchi (6) — (5:58, Hyperion)
-
Guch is moving a little slow after his big main event last night against Despe.
-
Robbie gets a quick start with a roll up attempt that transitions into a submission attempt.
-
A mostly shenanigans-free match, until Robbie voluntarily shows a little cheek.
-
Taguchi is now eliminated. Robbie is alive only in multi-way ties (MWT), unless MAO vs Wayne somehow results in zero points and Ishimori loses.
-
Final Block Matches (29th): Guch vs Knight, Eagles vs Despe
BOSJ A Block: KUSHIDA (6) def Yoshinobu Kanemaru (6) — (4:20, backslide)
-
Nobu attacks KUSHIDA while he’s posing on the turnbuckle.
-
Fairly HoT shenanigans-free after that.
-
KUSHIDA bails out of the ring right after winning. After Nobu recovers he argues with KUSHI and the ref about a supposed closed-fist punch (used to negate the whiskey mist attempt), but both men leave without incident.
-
Nobu is eliminated. KUSHIDA is only alive in MWT, provided Wato loses tonight.
-
Final Block Matches (27th): Nobu vs Wato, KUSHI vs Akira
BOSJ B Block: YOH (8) def Titan (6) — (4:48, DIRECT DRIVE)
-
Quick start by Titan, but in a babyface way. He has to win here to stay alive in the tourney.
-
If you’re not familiar with YOH, he spent some of his excursion in CMLL; so he knew how to hang with Titan here.
-
Titan is eliminated.
-
Post-match, YOH offers a fistbump and Titan accepts it.
-
Final Block Matches (29th): Titan vs Wayne, YOH vs Ishimori
BOSJ A Block: Dragon Dia (6) def Robbie X (6) — (8:35, Hurricanrana)
-
This was good, with some very nice nearfalls.
-
X is eliminated. Dia is alive in only MWT scenario.
-
Final Block Matches (27th): Dia vs Mack, X vs Hiromu
BOSJ B Block: MAO (8) def Nick Wayne (8) — (7:41, Dick Killer)
-
Quick start from both.
-
Pretty good, minimal DDT.
-
Post-match, they briefly get in each other’s faces, but MAO offers and Wayne accepts a handshake and hand raise.
-
Wayne’s hopes are down to MWT.
-
Final Block Matches (29th): MAO vs SHO, Wayne vs Titan
BOSJ A Block: Ninja Mack (Elim) def Kosei Fujita (8) — (9:57, Ninja Bomb)
-
Pre-lockup, Mack offers a handshake but Fujita waves it off.
-
This was fine. I felt like they never fully clicked, evident by Mack audibly calling spots a few times, but YMMV.
-
Even with this loss, Fujita is solidly alive as long as Wato loses in the main.
-
Final Block Matches (27th): Mack vs Dia, Fujita vs Clark
BOSJ B Block: SHO (6) def Taiji Ishimori (8) — (9:41, pin [after a Deadfall])
-
Ishimori sneak attacks SHO while he’s making his entrance.
-
After a brief outside brawl they get in the ring, but SHO rolls out and leads Ishimori through the curtain. SHO comes back out alone, Ishimori comes back in Yujiro’s clutches.
-
Ishimori does end up beating the numbers game, until SANADA shows up and it turns into 3-on-1. Gedo finally gets up from the commentary table to get the ref into the ring… just in time for him to count SHO’s pin on Gedo’s fellow Dog. (Something to keep in the back of your mind in case it becomes relevant later.)
-
Ishimori, who a lot of people had as their favorite, is now only alive in a MWT scenario. SHO is fully alive as long as Despe wins, in which case he’s also MWT only.
-
Final Block Matches (29th): SHO vs MAO, Ishimori vs YOH
BOSJ A Block: Clark Connors (8) def Francesco Akira (8) — (7:15, DQ)
-
Akira waits at the end of the ramp for Clark, who attacked him after his match yesterday, but doesn’t attack him. Instead he waits for Clark to see him and get ready before they run at each other.
-
This was… something. Ref bump, table, Wheel-san, Akira bladed, belt, Clark calling spots loudly, chairs, another ref bump.
-
Akira chooses to get DQed, and effectively eliminated from the tourney, after being warned against hitting Clark with a chair.
-
Post-match, Akira continues his attack, but is eventually speared through a table by Clark.
-
Both have to be held back by YLs until Clark finally gets through the curtain.
-
Final Block Matches (27th): Akira vs KUSHI, Clark vs Fujita
BOSJ B Block: El Desperado (8) def Kevin Knight (6) — (14:26, Pinche Loco)
-
This was great.
-
Post-match, they shake hands and bro-hug, and Despe raises Kevin’s hand.
-
Knight is eliminated (if he’d won he was still effectively out.)
-
Final Block Matches (29th): Knight vs Taguchi, Despe vs Eagles
BOSJ A Block: Hiromu Takahashi (8) def Master Wato (10) — (13:34, TIME BOMB II)
-
Another great one.
-
Post-match, Wato stands up on the apron and they have words. Hiromu condescendingly pats Wato on the head, and then offers a handshake which Wato understandably walks away from.
-
Wato is limping and the trainer is out here to walk with him to the back.
-
Hiromu victory promo: “Thank you! Wato, where's your belt? Aren't you a tag champion? I figured I'd challenge. Me and Kanemaru will challenge I think! Get it? Yesterday wasn't really how Kanemaru felt. Me and him are challenging, so get ready!”
-
“I'm feeling it. Maybe Hiromu can't go anymore. Thank you for all your support. So maybe let's do a little survey! Don't be shy, first timers here? A lot of you and you didn't even leave during my pointless promo! Thank you! Who's going to the finals? Some of you but not enough!”
-
“Tokyo is pretty near to Nagoya when you think about it. You can get everywhere! Everywhere is local in Japan! Thank you for chanting that! You all love wrestling and so do I. I'm set and determined. I guarantee that best of the Super Jr. is the best tour in all of NJPW and Hiromu Takahashi will definitely win! But only if I have your support! Until the very end, let's have more, more, more, more, more fun!”
-
As he’s leaving, Hiromu tries to recruit Gedo and Milano to his “new faction” with Nobu (which exists only in Hiromu’s head).
-
Final Block Matches (27th): Wato vs Nobu, Hiromu vs X
