Ubukeya is renowned for producing high-quality hand-forged blades, with a history dating back to 1783.
It’s special because it’s from your friend 🙂
The main thing to know about the knife is whether it’s single-bevel or double-bevel. It’s critical for maintaining it and if the terms are new to you, please google it.
It’s pretty expensive. Hope it’s a special friend
My executive chef has a couple. They’re pretty nice.
I’d be very flattered if a friend gave me a knive this expensive.
It says you shouldn’t cut frozen stuff or bones because it degrades knife.
Also make sure to wipe off all moisture every time you use it (this one is from me)
That is a very nice all-purpose knife. 👍🏽
Friends who give you beautiful knives>>>>>>
I have the same one, bought it from a department store in Akihabara. I don’t think they’re rare but a very good knife. Please learn from me and NEVER put it in the dishwasher…
He cherishs your friendship. That’s a high quality knife coming from the best smith in Japan. A Japanese once told me hand-finished by the bladesmith. So they have proper QC there.
Always hand wash this knife; never run it through a dishwasher. Look online to learn how to sharpen it properly. Watch your fingers! 😂
Eek bad luck to give a friend or loved one a knife
I have one of those, you always have to dry it if you dont want it to rust, good knife tho
I have the same knife from the same shop! I’m dead serious.
I think in Thai culture it’s bad luck to gift knives. Hope your friend is not Thai.
I have the same knife! It’s a pretty great all-purpose knife.
are you rare or special?
It’s from Seki
Imagine buying someone such a nice gift and they jump straight on reddit to see if it’s worth anything lol
There’s this area called Kappabashi. And there are shops that sell knife of all ranges and shapes. If you go further down the wholesale area, Niimi specifically, it has even more knife shops and kitchenware stuff. We just got a knife there.
I’m not saying your friend got it from there, but based on price, a knife starts from $90 to $200. We got one recently and it works really well in kitchen. Handle the blade carefully, dont let it chip.
Yes, it is special because it is a very nice gift from a friend, you do not need it to be rare or smthing…
Wow, y’all knife analyzers are interesting. Is it a hobby or are y’all culinary chefs haha?
Is that a harakiri knife?
It looks like a bad knife I have. But it didn’t come with a little explanation so maybe I have the cheap knockoff.
Looks like you’ve got a little Nakiri knife action going there.
Certainly a Deba, a fish knife. Heavy and not as sharp as it looks, flat on the other side. Heavy duty.
The best thing you can do with a gift is to use it
Please tell me that you gave him a coin 🥹🥹🥹
I have this exact knife, it’s one of my favourites
Bought one just like it almost 20 years ago in the China Town area of Chicago!
A sushi restaurant I go to has a whole wall of these knives. The owner is super nice. Said some of his knives he got from Japan were close to $900? They look the same / similar to this one. I’d LOVE to get one. No idea if he got them in person or online, but I’m guessing in person. The owner of said sushi house also taught me how to use a whetstone properly to sharpen my own knives. He’s a nice guy.
