[Spoilers] Blue Justice XVI (9/7) Results

Aaron Wolf is at ringside for IIRC the first time in a while. Pretty certain the first non-Tokyo or major show I’ve seen him at.

Zane Jay, Masatora Yasuda def Tatsuya Matsumoto, Tiger Mask — (7:50, Boston Crab)

  • Yasuda has upgraded to only his left knee being taped up, from both during the G1 tour.

  • After the entrances, hometown boy Yuji Nagata presents Tiger Mask with flowers to celebrate this being TM’s 30th anniversary year and also the last Blue Justice event he will work (TM is retiring next summer).

  • Then Dojo peers Jay and Matsumoto begin snarking at each other, and start us off.

  • A pretty surprising win for the dual YL team.

  • Post match, Yasuda respectfully but confidently gets in Tiger’s face, and after exchanging some words TM offers a handshake and Yasuda accepts. (I do think the half-Mexican Yasuda would be a good pick to take up the Tiger Mask mantle, if that’s a thing that’s going to happen in NJPW.)

  • TM also shakes Zane’s hand before the victorious team leaves.

  • Tiger cuts a promo thanking Nagata and the fans in Togane who he probably just wrestled in front of the last time. He’ll give it his all in the time he has left as an active wrestler.

  • In his Backstage Comments, Yasuda says he wants a singles match with Tiger before he retires.

Dick Togo, EVIL, Don Fale def Katsuya Murashima, Shoma Kato, Boltin Oleg — (7:24, Scorpion Deathlock)

  • There’s like three fans who immediately started loudly booing HoT. EVIL did get a very light cheer for his entrance announcement, but also this is kind of a country town so they are less likely to be smarky.

  • Fale has a cane now, and if that’s his Torture Tool we’ll have our first repeat.

  • The House get through the toke touching ritual before jumping the faces.

  • Dick keeps Murashima in the ring while everyone else has a very quick and light brawl on the outside.

  • HoT Shenanigans level: mild. Included the Tongan massage and the Dick choke.

  • Post match, Boltin gets on the apron with his NEVER title and has words with Fale. That match is at Destruction in Kobe on the 28th. The House let the faces leave unscathed.

Clark Connors[w/Wheel-san], Knockout Brothers (OSKAR, Yuto-Ice) def TAKA Michinoku, Tomoaki Honma, Taichi — (9:06, K.O.B)

  • This is the first match of the newly anointed Knockout Brothers/K.O.B, fka Youngblood. OSKAR’s entrance coat is very similar to Tsuji’s (before he switched to the trench) except black and with some chains (or Finlay’s without the fur). He’s wearing a half bandanna on his face that has the same pattern as Yuto’s shorts (see: a couple notes later.)

  • Yuto is in a War Dogs t-shirt, his legit diamond chain, and a bandanna as a headband.

  • Wheel-san, who recently got his own War Dogs shirt design, is here with Clark

  • After the entrances, KOB both step right up to Taichi; Clark steps up to Honma. They jump the faces and have an outside brawl before Clark and Honma get back in the ring.

  • OSKAR’s gear is long tights that are very reminiscent of EVIL or Finlay’s, IMO moreso EVIL.

  • Yuto’s wearing MMA shorts that I do not know how to describe… you know the pattern that’s on the back of a whale shark? It’s kinda like that but larger and in black and white. They also have the logo of the underground fight company Ambition which Yuto has fought in (which is also part of his pendant’s design), and what is likely not meant to be a daisy but looks like one on the crotch and butt.

  • Wheel-san did end up getting involved in the action.

  • The finish was OSKAR coming in illegally to hit KOB’s tag finisher, K.O.B; the combination tombstone and soccerball kick. (It’s a pain in the arse to type the periods every time so I’m probably only going to do it when referencing the move.)

  • You should watch at least one of these KoB preview tags to prepare for their tag title match in Kobe. If you can only watch one, I don’t know if this should be the one. It was just alright and the crowd wasn’t really into it.

  • Post match, Taichi comes back in for revenge but gets overwhelmed and knocked out by Yuto. Clark brings them Taichi’s tag title, Yuto holds it up and taunts the absent Ishii through the camera.

  • As they’re leaving Clark talks up KoB’s addition to the War Dogs.

Daiki Nagai, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi def Gedo, Taiji Ishimori, David Finlay, Gabe Kidd — (10:26, Maximum the Holding [Named by Daisuke Han] 3rd Form)

  • I don’t know if this is the debut of Nagai’s version of the YL theme with a little voice clip at the beginning, but it’s the first time I’ve noticed it.

  • Gabe does the entrance through the crowd and the really goofy crawl that he’s been doing in AEW. There’s a couple of vocal fans of his, but I’m not going to make judgements off of this particular crowd.

  • Post-entrances, Daiki Nagai of all people once again steps up to Finlay; who tells Unaffiliated to come “get [their] boy.” Nagai doesn’t back down and shoves Finlay, earning a shove back before Finlay blows past him to get in Tsuji’s face.

  • War Dogs bark and pound, and then Gabe goes and gets in Shingo’s face about the shit Shingo’s been talking. They start the match.

  • This was fine. They did an outside brawl where Shingo and Gabe briefly dueled with chairs. Nagai did get to work Finlay very briefly.

  • The finish involved some teamwork between Hiromu and Nagai, which could be pertinent to Jr Tag League coming up in November. If Nagai is still Unaffiliated at that point.

  • Post match, Tsuji and Finlay brawl through the curtains.

  • Shingo stands in the ring holding Gabe’s title, Gabe comes in and grabs it and says Shingo will never hold it. “Wah wah wah,” Shingo’s a bitch-ass boy for asking why Gabe made his return from injury at FD instead of the G1 finals.

  • Ishimori vs Hiromu, Finlay vs Tsuji, and Shingo challenging for Gabe’s Global title are all on DiK.

  • As he’s leaving, Hiromu plugs his GHC Junior title match against YO-HEY on tomorrow’s Korakuen show.

Togi Makabe, Master Wato, Toru Yano, YOH def Yuya Uemura, Shota Umino, Ryusuke Taguchi, El Desperado — (8:16, roll up)

  • Shooter sucking up to the crowd by wearing a Nagata shirt.

  • YOH and Despe elect to start.

  • Another fun one. Yano and Guch tried to outdo each other, and the Shota/Yuya team is shaping up well. Please god let it lead somewhere other than them just being closer friends and WTL partners.

  • The finish was a series of roll ups ending with Wato on top.

  • Post match, Wato holds his ankle while his fellow NEVER 6 Champs YOH and Yano come in to taunt their next challengers (the 13th, out next real NJPW show (the essentially non-canon Shinnichi Champion PPV is the night before). After a minute Wato gets up and joins in the taunting.

  • YOH then gets in Jr Champ Despe’s face and whispers in his ear then blows him kisses; that match is on the 24th.

  • Finally Guch gets right in Wato’s face.

  • Please go watch Guch’s Backstage Comments once the translated video is out. I will not elaborate.

DOUKI, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, SANADA[T-shirt version], Ren Narita def Kosei Fujita, Robbie Eagles, Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa, Zack Sabre Jr. — (13:10, Rounding Body Press)

  • SANADA has a new guitar. Ren has his new cheer towel, which has the same logo as his push-up bar, along with aforementioned bar.

  • During Zack’s entrance he gets nose-to-nose with Ren, his next challenger at DiK.

  • After the entrances, SHO gets a mic to cut the “fuck this shithole town and these country bumpkins” promo: this time with some added barbs towards Nagata and he and DOUKI’s Jr Tag title challengers (the 24th), Fujita and Eagles.

  • Robbie snatches the mic away and tells SHO to “shut up idiot.” The House attack. Eagles and DOUKI stay in the ring to start.

  • HoT Shenanigans level: mid-moderate. There was a second outside brawl, this one in the crowd.

  • A fun match. To me the most interesting thing here was Zack and Ren’s segment, and ZSJ’s continuing drift towards the old Suzukigun Zack. As well as a spot where Hartley almost dropped SANADA on his head, but thankfully managed to recover his grip.

  • For the finish Narita distracted the ref while DOUKI, SHO, and Yuj all hit Hartley with their tools. Then SANADA hit the body press to finish Big Jag off.

  • Post match, Ren continued to attack Zack, including spitting water(?) in his face, and they brawled out of the building. Zack ended up with a slightly bloody nose.

  • Then DOUKI and SHO taunt and talk shit to Fujita and Robbie.

We get a nice video recapping Tana and Nagata’s history ahead of their final singles match.

**Tanahashi Final Road ~Kinship~: Hiroshi Tanahashi def Yuji Nagata — (18:11, High Fly Flow)

  • We also get the full Nagata entrance with the extended intro. Nagata’s old amateur training classmate is here to present him with a monetary gift.

  • While making his entrance, Tana briefly locks eyes with Aaron Wolf (despite Tana specifically saying it wouldn’t happen, I do still have an inkling of that fear).

  • Pre-lockup crowd poll is pretty much all Nagata. This means Tana gets to work a little heelish, as a treat.

  • Yeah just go watch this. But don’t feel bad about skipping the rest of the show.

  • At one point Nagata hit a backdrop and Tana landed right on his head. But he was able to get back up to finish the match within >5 minutes. Nagata also slightly busted himself open with a headbutt during the final stretch.

  • Post match, they both sell for a minute before Tana gets up first to get his hand raised. Eventually he does over to kneel down and talk to Nagata, then Nagata finally recovers and sits up.

  • Tana cuts a promo and somewhat cheekily introduces himself as the Ace and President of NJPW. He talks about his history with Nagata, and puts him over and thanks him.

  • This was also Tana’s last time wrestling in Togane, which is announced to the crowd. Nagata’s son (who is built like a brick shithouse) comes in to present Tana with flowers and do a photo op. Tana motions to Nagata Sr to join the photo, and he begrudgingly does so after the crowd starts chanting his name.

  • Tana continues his promo. Maybe Nagata Jr will become a wrestler in the near future (I think he’s still under 18?). As President Tana wants to create a bright future for NJPW.

  • They close out the show with a combination of AISHITEMASU and Nagata salute.

  • Tana shakes Nagata’s hand and bows to him before Nagata leaves him to pose on the turnbuckles as Blue Justice goes around fist bumping the front row. Eventually Tana starts his own fanservice routine.

  • They meet at the curtain to pose one final time and then bow to the crowd to finally finish up the sho… no wait Tana stayed a minute to do more fanservice lol.
