So today I went to use my MUFG debit card and it didn't work. No outstanding balance or bills, residence card is up to date with the bank, no fraudulent activity.

What did they say when you asked MUFG?
Could just be that MUFG wasn’t accepted wherever you wanted to use it for whatever reason. Gotta always double check the little sign for accepted cards.
Outside of that all you can do is contact MUFG.
Call them, last it happened to me, there was a fraudulent small use of my card (like a 2 thousands) that made them block my card. There was an email I missed that told me so but I missed it.
