Staying in nago for an event, is it safe for a solo female?

im super neurotic lol im staying in a hotel near the main streets in nago (1-chome) and i want to know if during the day its okay to walk around and explore as a solo female traveler (i dont know much japanese either)
Like if i were to take a 30 min walk to the mall or the beach alone during the day, would it be fine?

  1. “Yes, Nago is considered very safe for solo female travelers, with a low crime rate and a generally respectful culture. However, as with any city, it’s important to exercise standard precautions, be aware of your surroundings, and trust your instincts.” Taken from Google

  2. Nago is safe. Okinawa has a crime rate of 16-17 per 1000 making it very safe in general. It might be hard to believe but the worst places in Japan, which Nago isn’t a bad place, are generally safer than the best places in the United States.

  3. Japan in general is safe. As long as you’re following basic safety protocols, like not getting drunk and wandering around in the middle of the night, you won’t have any problems. It’s one of the safest countries in the world.

  4. I live in Nago, it’s easily the safest place I’ve ever been. I see 5 year olds walking down the street by themselves all the time.

You are in more danger of getting struck by lightning sitting in your house on a cloudless day than you are of getting assaulted in Nago walking down the street in the middle of the day.

  5. I don’t think any assurances from the internet will calm your anxiety.

Better off renting a car and driving around Okinawa to avoid long walks. Parking is plentiful. Or just don’t travel solo

  6. I did 2 weeks going across Okinawa in June and I was alone 80% of the time and I felt pretty safe

  7. To be honest, as a foreigner in Japan you will probably the scare the local people more than they will scare you.

  8. I’ve lived here for quite a few years. You’ll be fine! Usually ok getting around without knowing any or much japanese though it does help a lot

  9. I’ve lived in 15 countries in the last 14 years as an american, there is no safer area than Okinawa for either a single female or my own 4 year old daughter or my 2.5 year old son. Don’t be an american asshole and do whatever you want. i have had asked local people questions or directions and they will actually take you by the hand and lead you.
