incredible "Tamatebako" (Treasure Box) breakfast at an Onsen Ryokan in Awaji Island!
Check out this amazing breakfast spread from my stay at Awaji International Hotel The Sunplaza in Sumoto.
It’s called the "Tamatebako Breakfast." Just like the Japanese folk tale, it comes in a beautiful three-tier wooden box filled with local seasonal delicacies.
Highlights included:
• Awaji Onion: Slow-cooked and incredibly sweet (Awaji is famous for its onions!).
• Local Rice: "Kinuhikari" rice grown right here on the island.
• Seafood: Miso-grilled silver cod and baby sardines (chirimen) with grated radish.
• Custom Smoothies: They served three different fresh smoothies (Kiwi, Carrot, and Coconut).
The attention to detail was stunning. If you're ever visiting Awaji Island, I highly recommend staying for the food alone!
