Trying to get an internship but in a lab

Hello, I am trying to find an internship in japan, but I am not a company worker, I am a lab researcher. I try my best to google some detail but all I get is steps for people to find office work or company work. Can someone help me find research internships preferably on cancer or stem cell?

I have so far managed to find one such position in Okinawa, but it’s for just \~3 people and Okinawa isn’t as good as main land japan.

  1. How long of an internship are you looking for?

The simple answer is find labs that interest you and send the PI an email. But, depending on the length of time, there’s probably scholarships or grants that make more sense – JSPS, MEXT, etc.

  2. You may need to pay tuition to become a research student for some universities.

  3. You could always be a research student for 1 year at university then apply for PhD programs and scholarships after. You have to pay like 30000-20000円/month and it doesn’t count towards a degree.

  4. What are your research field and interests? I probably can give you some specific hints which labs and PIs you could contact.
