I wanted to share an observation in case it helps someone.
I’ve seen two rose-ringed parakeets (ring-necked parakeets) staying together in Higashiyama Park, near Ikejiri-Ōhashi Station, since yesterday afternoon. I checked again today around 10:00 am and they were still in the same area.
They look healthy at the moment, feeding on trees in the park (there are citrus/orange trees), and mostly keeping to themselves as a pair while sharing trees with local birds. I’m aware that this species has feral populations in Japan, but I’ve personally never seen this pair in this park before.
From a distance (I stayed far away to avoid scaring them), it looked like one of them might have a leg band, though this is not clearly visible in the photos, so it could be a mistake.
Posting this just in case they are escaped pets and someone is looking for them.
Happy to share more details if helpful

There has been a pretty large population of feral parakeets in Tokyo since the 1960s.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these birds quite a few times over the years. I believe there is a wild population that originated from pets.
I saw a flock of 100+ of these guys near Chofu a couple weeks ago
There are flocks in many places over here in the west part (relatively close to Ikejiri-Ohashi) of Tokyo. They seem to roost in particular places nightly for a few months, then move elsewhere for a while; later, either new flocks or the same start to roost in the same spots for a while.
Been seeing and especially hearing them at dawn and dusk for many years as I live near a big park. Really puzzled me the first few times – seemed so out of place here.
If you want to see vultures, you have to go to Kasumigaseki. The parrots are not rare.
They show up in my area every year around Sakura season cause they love to munch on them flowers 🦜🌸
They’re everywhere. Descended from escaped or released parakeets, though.
They almost always visit [Rinshi no Mori](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanpics/s/zyhl0wfPmx) during cherry blossom season if you want to see some again. I see them a lot in Shinagawa parks as there’s a large roost near Ookayama Station, at the old TIT. Keep an ear out for their calls – immediately obvious when you hear them.
They love sunflowers as well
There’s loads of them in Hyde Park London as well. Maybe they’re plotting to take over major cities in the hunt for sunflower seeds 😅
This is good picture
Plenty around Nerima.
“escaped”…….
Glad to know is not an escaped pet! One seemed to have a ring on its feet but then maybe it has been living outside for a while🤔
These birds escape, become feral, then continue to breed. Happened in nations all over the planet. Governments should do more to cull them.

I saw them a year ago! Such a lovely surprise when walking through the park.
