Hi folks,
I guess you’ve likely seen the news that Powerhouse Hobbs is departing AEW on good terms.
It seems to be taken as certain that he’s off to the Fed, but it’s not explicitly confirmed. I realise this is a long shot, but how would you feel if he chose New Japan instead?
I’m a big fan of the guy and I think he’d crush it in NJPW. I could see him going on a Vader style run and becoming a dominant gaijin heel.

I’d love to see him in NJPW, but sadly NJPW execs have already admitted they can’t match the money being offered by AEW or WWE. Also WWE is known is to be interested in hiring Hobbs, so that’s probably where he’ll end up going.
If it were New Japan, he would have joined with a double contract w/AEW, at least at first. Plus, pay in New Japan probably doesn’t come close to what WWE must be offering the guy.
His knees are not doing well enough to handle a hard style and/or many matches. Travelling to Japan would also be a major pain in his meaty ass. And I don’t think he ever had major connection to puroresu or japanese culture.
He’s been very well connected with the New Day and other talent in WWE, he’s going main roster and has a group of people who are championing for him.
I do find the comments MVP has made about HHH to be interesting – now’s the time to see the proof in how far he goes up/down in his trajectory. (ignoring his mid 30’s age)
That would be extremely sick, but I doubt it’s in the cards
Maybe in a different time, but not now. I don’t want guys like Oleg, Drilla, Henare, Oiwa, and Murashima to get overlooked for a short term hire. Home grown talent really need to be prioritized right now.
He’d be a new interesting guy in the mix. But again the company don’t have the money to even offer a contract to him that would be feasible for him to join new japan.
Rather they strap a rocket to Uemura
Can’t fault the guy for wanting to test his abilities on the WWE stage, it’s been every American wrestler’s dream at some point in their life.
I think he’d crush it in a midcard to upper midcard monster heel role as the enforcer for United Empire.
“The Fed”. Cringe.
I’d personally like him in NJPW. I like the idea of him being a Jeff Cobb style babyface or a Vader style monster heel. I can’t say I’m all that interested in seeing what WWE does with him.
Had not seen that. He could have some good matches
A run would be fun if hes fine with a decent pay cut.
Hopefully Hobbs can get booked competently for once. So much wasted potential.
If he had an interest in New Japan I’m sure he would have already taken advantage of the partnership. If Jungle Boy can get a run in the New Japan Cup, Hobbs definitely could have done. They love a good powerhouse.
Plus Hobbs has great connections in WWE including CM Punk. I see very little chance he lands anywhere but Connecticut
I wouldn’t be opposed to it, but if he was coming to Nooj, he would’ve been on a dual contract.
Also, stop calling it “The Fed.”
Would really like to see him work a G1, but at the moment the roster is stacked
Would’ve been a great NEVER champion in the old “BMF” vein like Goto, Suzuki, Shingo etc.
He’d be fine in the NEVER scene. But he’s going to WWE for sure.
I wish. NJPW needs a new monster foreign heek to use to build the next Ace. Hobbs could easily be a Vader like presence in Japan.
“The Fed” what a dweeb
Of all the *fantasy* booking, this is right up there 🤣
I’d love it so much but its not going to happen.
Eh a couple of years ago yes and I love Hobbs but the reality is he’s been injured way too much so it’s obvious he’s using his time intelligently and is doing going to WWE right now before the injuries keep stacking up. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s back in AEW in 2 years time.
One of those guys AEW dropped the ball with, for sure.
Hobbs would be great in New Japan, but the fact that he’s bound for WWE at this point is surely already written in stone.
I don’t want to come off as a pessimist but I wouldn’t see Hobbs elevated any higher than Jeff Cobb was in NJPW. He’d be a good hand and heater but no hope of Vader/Norton/Brock levels of success in NJ.
I’m not sure why any independant contractor would want less money for a harder schedule…
I mean, there’s no way that’s what’s happening.
I’d be surprised, as NJPW would be for less money and further away from home. But I’d respect it as clearly he’s doing it because he loves Japanese wrestling
I think he would be a good addition to their roster.
He would do well I reckon. Depends on booking still, but I could see Japan taking to him. Big strong athletic bruiser, put on some good matches and he would.win the crowd over. But yh still he would be heading to WWE no way is he heading the NJPW like this.
