How can I word things more naturally in Japanese?

I’ll often come up with a technically accurate way to say something, but to a Japanese person it sounds unnatural and like I’m trying to speak English in Japanese.

How do you get better at writing and speaking in a natural/idiomatic way? If you have a specific sentence you want to say, how can you figure out if it’s natural-sounding?

For example (and i hope this doesn’t count as a translation request), I’m explaining why I prefer cold places to hot places. What I came up with is:

どれくらい寒くなってももっと服を着るなら大丈夫だけど、もっと暑くなるなら服を脱ぐという限界があるからです。

My friend says 「もっと暑くなるなら服を脱ぐという限界があるからです」doesn’t sound like natural Japanese, however, she’s having trouble figuring out a way to word this that does sound natural. It starting to suspect it’s not something a Japanese person would ever say, but there’s gotta be a way to say it!

What would you say?
